Nature of Work

The work of fine artists is to specialize in photography, graphics, printing and silk screen printing. Commercial artists can make a career in fields, designing of stamps, telegraphs department, illustrators, in publishing houses, ad agencies, weaver?s centers, packaging units, etc. Several Universities have an Art Faculty to teach degree courses.

Work Environment

The artist requires creativity, imagination, curiosity and a sense of adventure. They have to make visually appealing presentations and hence they work with a variety of materials. They work with the latest materials and technological equipments.

Employment Avenues

Graduates will be recruited in advertising, CD-ROM publishing, book publishing, web designing, newspaper and magazine publishing and television software production etc. They will be recruited in any of these:
? Advertising Agencies:
Advertising Agencies recruit trainee visualiser for these agencies.

? Design houses:
Designer houses are small setups catering to a limited clientele as compared to the agencies. These houses are hired for production or design work of a relatively smaller scale as compared to full service advertising agencies. Apart from their full-time employees, they hire freelance illustrators, cartoonists, interior decorators as per their requirements.

? Media (Print/Electronic):

? Greeting card manufacturers:

Card market is expanding offering challenges for the artist.
? Web designing
The use of applied art is required while designing web pages. Rich graphics are used to design the text depends upon the artist.

Earnings:

? Web designers: Rs 3,500 and Rs 6,000 per month
? Designer or visualiser: Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 per month
? Assistant Art Director Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000 per month
? Art Director Rs 25, 000 to Rs 40,000 per month
? Senior creative director Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month
