JEST 2010 Ph.D



The Joint Entrance Screening Test is conducted by many institutes clubbed together for students who aspire to do research in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science. The marks the students obtain in this test are approved by all the institutes that offer research based programs. The students are required to pass through a personal interview after clearing the JEST to join the course. Through JEST the participating colleges offer PhD in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science, Integrated course in M.Tech – Ph.D (at IIA) and Integrated M.Sc – PhD in Physics and Computer Science.

For the PhD program in Physics, M.Sc in Physics or M.Sc/ M.E/ M.Tech in related sciences is essential. M.Sc Mathematics and B.Tech (in Engg Physics/Applied Physics/Post B.Sc. Hons only) are considered in IIA. For IPR, Masters Degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, etc with 55% aggregate is essential. Exceptional students of final year B.Sc will be considered for pre-selection at IUCAA.

For the PhD program in Theoretical Computer Science degree in M.Sc/ B.E/ B.Tech/ MCA and related disciplines are eligible. Bright final year students of B.Sc/ B.E/ B.Tech are also considered for Integrated M.Sc – PhD course.

JEST 2010 was conducted at Ahmedabad, Aligarh, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bardhaman, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nainital, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Roorkee, Sambalpur, Silchar, Siliguri, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur and Visakhapatnam.

JEST exam had 2 parts: Part A had multiple choice questions and Part B had short answer questions.

JEST exam was conducted on 21st February, 2010.
