Leather Technology
Leather has been used since early ages by man. Leather was not considered as famous as it is now , we use leather in all? many of our day to day life like purses, clothes, shoes, accessories hence it has become a new stream. India has always been a good producer of leather products. Earlier leather training was difficult and harsh now but now as it has emerged as new field it has become much better and conditioned. Kanpur is hub of leather products in India. India has a large cattle population hence it has become a hub for leather products creating new job and fields
Nature of Work
There are 2 main areas in leather technology first is processing of raw leather and other involves production and marketing of leather. Leather technologists are trained in the treatment of animal skin
Leather Technology
Leather technologists are not only trained to work in industries they are required to invent better design and production ways to utilize leather
Production- Leather Technologist is required to have scientific knowledge to shape leather into products and so as to minimize waste and raw material. They also have to supervise the production process
Research and Quality control ?Leather Technologist test the finished product in laboratories to verify the quality
Work Environment
Basically leather technologists works in Tanneries the conditions there are not so good as compared to other counterpart engineering fields but some modernized tanneries have very good facilities. They have to work on large machinery and handle a large workforce also they need to work in labs to test the quality
Personal Characteristics
The leather technologists need to be more skillful than other people because the place where he works requires more adaptability and problem solving skills. And also he has to play the role of a manger to handle a large workforce. Chemistry knowledge is also an added advantage.
Employment Avenues
Employment prospects of leather designer are real good; the leather technologist finds itself in shoe, garment, accessory, gift item industries. The leather industry has great demand of Technologist as till now only less educated people with experience were running the industry hence huge potential is there in the market a leather technologist can also become a shoe, or accessory designer.
