Nature of Work

Mathematician has to work in almost all fields:

Theoretical mathematicians

Deals with the study of the abstract and pure mathematical concepts and are not concerned with practical mathematical solutions. They study and work on pure mathematical operations investigating mathematical principles and mathematical systems.

Applied mathematicians

Applied mathematicians use mathematical knowledge for finding practical solutions. They apply knowledge of Mathematics in all fields; social sciences, physical sciences, life sciences and earth sciences.

Natural and mathematical scientists

Natural and mathematical scientists have to do the work of observation, study and experimentation. These scientist are divided into three broad categories Physical Scientists, Life scientists and Computers and Mathematical occupations.

Computing & mathematics

Computer engineers develop computer application programs based on mathematical models. Operations research analysts use mathematical formulae to solve management and operational problems. Financial analysts study investment plans of financial, industrial, and banking institutions are also done on the computers.

Work Environment

The work of Mathematicians and Statisticians is office based. They have to work in office working on computers in a week schedule for completing any task. Statisticians often work as a team and the job may require senior members to guide and supervise field staff. They have to collect data from the surveys and make records for working on it.

Study/ Training

Candidate must be graduated /post graduated in Mathematics to be eligible for this course. BSc and MSc courses in Mathematics and Statistics are offered by most universities for admission into this job profile. Students may opt for PhD programs on completing M.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics
