Medical Transcription



Medical transcription jobs are offered to the customers in India by US based companiesas a result of openings in IT services sector. Doctors cannot claim fees if patients show a medical report which is a vital document. Due to the availability of English-speaking, computer literate people India offers cheapertranscription services.
Nature of Work

Report of the patient is prepared based on the recorded message of the doctor. As he interacts with the patient, the conversation gets recorded on a tape through attached computer. The medical document is prepared by the medical transcriptionist on basis of the message.

The medical report after going through a three stage process involving procedures and policy guidelines and editing by professionals is sent to the doctor via satellite.

Work Environment

The work includes concentrating on working on the computer as well as listening to the recorded message.

Personal Characteristics

The ability to understand American speech with medical terms, to understand their accent, be dedicating and be involved in work, exceptional listening skills, working and attending details is needed for a Medical transcriptionist.

Employment Avenues

The health care profession is the second largest industry in the US. As the demand for quality documentation continues to increase owing  to increased specialisation in medical treatment. Jobs for transcriptionists will evolve in India due to medical insurance, medical documentation. Skills of transcription  are required in the legal profession also. Study and Training

Candidates who are good in communication skills in English with some knowledge of medical terms are recruited as trainees for six to eight months after qualifying in written test.
