SPA stands for School of Planning and Architecture. Initially it was known as the Department of Architecture of the Delhi Polytechnic. The journey started way back in the year 1941. Later with Government initiatives it was affiliated to the University of Delhi. Then it was integrated to the School of Town and Country Planning. So, finally in the year 1959 this school was renamed as School of Planning and Architecture. In the year 1979 the Government of India conferred the status ‘deemed to be a University’ to the School of Planning and Architecture. One can still find some unique courses in the school which are not available in any other institution in the entire country of India.

Currently the various courses on offer from the School are

1. Doctoral Programmes in the various disciplines offered by the School.
2. Bachelor’s Programme in Planning
3. Bachelor’s Programme in Architecture
4. Master’s Programme in Planning
5. Master’s Programme in Architecture
6. Master’s Programme in Landscape Architecture and
7. Master’s Programme in Building Engineering and Management

Moreover in the Master’s Programme in Planning the specializations include Environmental Planning, Housing, Transport Planning, urban planning and regional planning. In the Master’s Programme in Architecture the specializations include architectural conservation, industrial design and urban design.

At present there are 90 seats for the undergraduate courses and 135 for the various Post-graduate courses along with 10 seats for the Doctoral programmes. For the autumn semester the classes generally get underway in the month of July.
