Interior designers must have a technical knowledge of building and structures for planning of interior spaces, ventilation, electrical circuits and installations, drainage and water supply, air conditioning and heating systems etc. They work with architects in planning the layout of interiors for maximum utilization of area, for creating spaces, for functionality as well as utility. They prepare layout plans, elevations, perspectives and also prepare sample models to increase the demand of interior designers.
Interior designers also work for designing homes, commercial complexes, theatres, interiors of air crafts and ships, industry, offices, hotel rooms, foyers, shopping arcades, restaurants, banquet and conference halls, etc.

The work of Interior decorators is to give advice for the use of color, textures, fabrics and decorative materials, light effects, layout and furniture in creating an attractive and functional interior. The decorator advices, selects and arranges an interior with furniture and furnishings using appropriate color schemes and materials.
They offer professional advice for decoration of homes, business workplaces, restaurants, clubs, bars, conference and convention halls, community centres, shop and emporium window displays, set designs, exhibitions, etc. Interior decorators work with interior designing firms.

Work Environment

Interior Designers have to work in different places as they apply their expertise to decorate shops, homes, hotels, commercial complexes, lounges and special sets etc. The job is carried on at the venue hence working conditions keep changing when interiors are done. Interacting with technical staff, masons, and carpenters is a tough job that to explain them all details

Earnings

Freshers may begin with a small monthly stipend of Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000. After on the job training when they have learnt to handle individual assignments they may earn Rs. 8000 to Rs. 10,000
