TMI stands for Tolani Maritime Institute. You can opt for any of the two courses conducted by the TMI. The two courses are B.S. Marine Engineering and B.S. Nautical Technology. Both of these courses are technical courses and are equivalent to a B.E degree completed from the BITS. Since these courses are conducted off the campus hence the nomenclature has been given with B.S. There is a provision of an entrance test to get selected for the courses. You can either opt for the BITSAT or the TMISAT. If you appear in both of these courses then only the better score will be considered. In order to be eligible to appear in the entrance one needs to study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the 10+2 level as compulsory subjects with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in these three subjects when combined. Final year students can apply in a provisional basis.

Every year for the batch starting in the month of August the application forms are made available in the month of January. One can get hold of these forms either via the official website of the TMI or by visiting some selected AXIS bank branches. The test syllabus is strictly based in the 11^th and 12^th class CBSE syllabus. There is not any provision of negative marking in the entrance test.
