UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2010



Union Public Service Commission organizes preliminary exams for the recruitment to the government services and posts. This exam is held on 23rd May2010 as per Rules issued by Department of Personnel and Training in the Gazette of India on 2nd January 2010. There are almost 23 different government services expected for the candidates. The following is the list of 23 auspicious government jobs:

  1. Indian Administrative Service
  2. Indian Foreign Service
  3. Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group A (Assistant Works Manager, Non-technical)
  4. Indian Postal Service, Group A
  5. Indian Police Service
  6. Indian P&T Accounts & Finance Service, Group A
  7. Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group A
  8. Indian Revenue Service (I.T.), Group A
  9. Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group A
  10. Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group A
  11. Indian Railway Accounts Service, Group A
  12. Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise), Group A
  13. Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group A
  14. Indian Railway Personnel Service, Group A
  15. Post of Assistant Security Officer in Railway Protection Force, Group A
  16. Indian Defence Estates Service, Group A
  17. Indian Information Service (Junior Grade), Group A
  18. Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakhadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Group B
  19. Pondicherry Civil Service, Group B
  20. Pondicherry Police Service, Group B
  21. Indian Corporate Law Service, Group A
  22. Armed Force Headquarters Civil Service, Group B (Section Officer’s Grade)
  23. Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Group B

Procedure of Civil Service Exams:

This exam is taken in two steps – First step is Preliminary exam and second step is Mains. Preliminary exam is in written form while mains consists of written as well as interview.

Important features:

1. The candidate must fulfill all criteria for being eligible for preliminary exams.

2. Application form for all types of UPSC exams is common.

3. The last date for submission of application form was 1st February, 2010 and the exam will be held on 23rd May, 2010.

4. In objective type question paper, negative marking to wrong answers is done.

5. The mobile phones, pagers or any other communicative device are strictly prohibited inside the premise.

      I HAVE APPEARED FOR MY CLASS (C.B.S.E) XII EXAMINATION WITH (PCMB) AND I HAVE NOT MADE AN EFFORT AS PER MY POTENTIAL.NOW I HAVE LOST MY INTEREST IN STUDYING SCIENCE AND NOT APPEARING FOR ENTRANCE EXAM.I AM TOTALY CONFUSED.I THINK TO CHANGE STREAM AND TAKE UP ANY GRADUATE COURSE AND APPEAR FOR IPS ENTRANCE OR GO FOR MBA.BUT THEN WHICH COURSE TO OPT.AND I HAVE ANOTHER OPTION TO SET UP A BUSSINESS AND PURSUE GRADUTION ALONG WITH N ALSO PREPARE FOR IPS SIMULTANEOSLY.WILL IT BE POSSIBLE.WHAT SHOULD I DO.I AM NOT A DUMBO AND I HAVE DONE WELL IN MY PHYSICS AND MATHS EXAM ONLY STUDYING WHAT TAUGHT IN TUTION OTHER SUBJECT I DDNT HAVE ANY TUTION.

      I have passed my 10+2 from CBSE science as Physics,Mathematics,English,Computer Science,Physical Education in 2008… I have than changed my stream from Science to Management and now pursuing BBA. At present i am in 2nd Semester i am intrested in appearing for IPS. Can i appear for UPSC exams as i am studing Management now? What subjects are required ?       Sir, I am a serving defence personnel (PBOR). My date of birth is 10 Aug 1975. I will be less than 35 years as on 01 Aug 2010. I want to appear for UPSC 2010 exams. Do I qualify for age relaxation as of now while serving, under any clause. Further, I am a permanent resident of J &K and had been domiciled in the state of J & K during 1980 to 1989. Can I qualify under this clause for an age relaxation of five years.
